Day 9: Dracula

We woke up and went for breakfast. After that we went a walk into Bran and found a market so spent an hour or so looking around. Stephen found himself some now sunglasses and we also picked up a few things for James which we are sure he will love. After exploring the market we made our way to Bran Castle (Dracula’s Castle)

This visit was a massive help to our major project as each room was jam packed with historic information and it was one of the more enjoyable visits of this trip. We enjoyed the food we had so much the night before we decided to go back again for dinner. After that it was back to the camp site to chill for the rest of the night.

Day 8: Camping

Today Dillon got up early to go do some laundry and got hit with a 50lei bill for a single load of washing!!! Absolute scam artists!! We then picked up breakfast and headed to the bus for Bran. We got off and walked to vampire Camping to pitch our tents when we got a surprise visit from our favourite people, Super James and the rest of the leadership crew. After there photo op they left us in peace. We went out to complete another of our missions by trying a local delicacy

We got it from a street food wagon and it was delicious- they are Meniu Crispy Strips.

Tomorrow we go to explore Bran fully.

Day 7: Citadel

We woke up and went for the bus to Râşnov. We got off and went to the supermarket for food. We then embarked on the 45 minute walk to the Râşnov Citadel which has helped us in completing our major project. On the way up to the fortress we saw an excellent opportunity to complete our “use an interesting mode of transportation” challenge-

Here are some of our pictures from the Citadel:

On the way back to the bus we came a cat about the size of a shoe who we called Jim and we were sure he was blind.

When we got back to our hostel we decided to try our Food Panda the Romanian Uber Eats. We ordered some Pizzas and Crepes.

Day 6: Braşov 2.0

After our disaster of a first trip to Braşov we decided to spend one more day in Braşov. We woke up and went for breakfast then visited the First School once again to get all the information. After that we went back to the hostel for a few hours to hide from the heat. We then went to The Black Church.

We then went for dinner. We all ordered nachos and it’s fair to say we were underwhelmed when they arrived!

After dinner we went back to the hostel to let our dinner settle then we went to the running track for an hour. It was at that point at 11pm Stephen and I had the great idea to climb mount Tampa and reach the Braşov sign.

So we set off in the pitch black but at midnight we finally reached the sign and the Views were breathtaking

Day 4: Sibiu

We were sad to leave our little wooden lodge so soon but we had to move on. We had to run the 45 minutes to Daneş where we barely made our train. Once we arrived in medias again we had a wait on our hand where we got breakfast. The train to Sibiu Went by quickly and we eventually arrived and started the walk to our hostel. It was once again a lovely place. We left the hotel to see the sights. We went to:

The Bridge of Lies

The Sibiu Council Towers (A view from the Top)

We also watch a local volleyball tournament

While walking around soaking up the night time atmosphere we also witnessed things that gave us in insight into the Romanian Citizens feelings:

So far the missions we have completed are:

  1. Use public transportation
  2. Sleep in an unusual
  3. Shop at a local supermarket
  4. Visit a museum
  5. Buy a tacky gift for James

Day 3: Choo Choo Train

It was an early start and a 45 minute walk through Braşov to get to the train station. But we were in high spirits.

Once we arrived at the train station and got on our train we were happy to find Tom, Liam, Ryan and James on it also. It was a long 3 hour train but we had our own booth so we were happy enough.

We arrived in Medias and waited for our next train to Daneş. When it eventually came it looked like a scene from a horror movie.

The atmosphere wasn’t helped by Stephen hanging his head out the window.

He protested he wasn’t the most stupid person on the train as “weans were hanging out the doors”.

Never the less we all arrived in Daneş safely. Next was a half an hour walk to our villa for the night. We arrived to a pleasant surprise.

It was a lovely welcoming place and the views around us were magnificent. We decided to let Stephen cook dinner as he keeps telling us he’s a chef. Let’s just say the spaghetti was like wallpaper paste so he will be cooking no more.

After dinner is was time to go out to the pool that was filled with water, not with dirt unlike our promised hot tub on day 1. We all played some water volleyball (Dillon won obviously) and had some well deserved rest.

Day 2: Rain Rain Go Away

This morning we woke up to moths and flies all over our room. It’s fair to say our hostel was very interesting. Soon after us leaving to catch the bus to Braşov for some food it began to belt down rain and hail. For most of the day it has been heavy thunderstorms. But that didnt stop us. We visited the first Romanian school.

After that we decided that our best option was to switch hostels.

As you can see it’s a very nice and cosy place. This evening Super James swooped in once again and took us out for an amazing meal at a burger house (Thanks James). Today has been 1 million times better than yesterday and this experience is looking to be an amazing one and all of us can’t wait to see what the next 8 days bring!

Day 1: Burst tires and Interesting Hostels

We started our day at 10am. We set off expecting the 4 hour walk to Braşov to go smoothly not to mention our day as a whole!

About 2 hours in Dillon’s hayfever left him blinded so for the first time of the day Super James came to the rescue. After we sorted that out we decided it was best to take the bus to Braşov.

Eventually we arrived in Braşov to find It was another hours walk in the blistering heat to our hostel. 20 minutes in and our group begins to struggle which forces us to seek shade and stop. So for the 2nd time today Super James swooped in to save the day as he does. He put us in some taxis which we were expecting to take us to our hostel. WRONG!! They dropped us in the middle of a maze of streets and after consulting with google maps and a bit more walking we eventually made it to the hostel. We were move around different rooms until Super James came along and dealt with the owner firmly. We think James felt sorry for the horrendous day we were having so he kindly gave Stephen and I a lift to McDonald’s to get our groups dinner but Super James decided that mounting the kerb was a great idea and he ended up bursting the tire

Unfortunately there was no Jag dealerships about to get the tire fixed, Stephen and I were left to change the tire with the help of 2 friendly Romanians and an F1 style bolt gun.

At least our expedition can’t get any worse from here on in!
